Support

Need a hand? Email support@ordertrailapp.com and we'll get back to you, usually within a day. The answers below cover the most common questions.

Setting up your email

OrderTrail signs in to your email with an app password, a separate password your email provider makes just for one app. It keeps your real password private, and you can revoke it anytime.

iCloud Mail (@icloud.com, @me.com)
  1. Open account.apple.com and sign in.
  2. Go to Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Create a password named "OrderTrail" and paste it into the app.
Gmail
  1. Turn on 2-Step Verification for your Google Account, if it isn't on yet.
  2. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
  3. Create an app password named "OrderTrail" and paste the 16 letters into the app.
  4. In Gmail settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP, make sure IMAP is enabled.
Yahoo Mail
  1. Open login.yahoo.com/account/security.
  2. Choose Generate app password.
  3. Name it "OrderTrail" and paste the password into the app.
Other providers

Look up your provider's IMAP server in its help pages (port 993 with SSL). If your account uses two-factor sign-in, create an app password there. Outlook.com isn't supported yet, because Microsoft no longer allows app passwords for IMAP. Support is planned.

Common questions

An order is missing or has the wrong details

Pull down on the Orders list (iPhone) or click Run Scraper (Mac) to scan for new emails. If an order still looks wrong, choose "Rescan all in range" from the scan menu. You can also change an order's status by hand. If a store's emails aren't read correctly, email us with the store name. A screenshot with personal details blacked out helps us add support quickly.

Which stores work?

Amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, eBay, Apple, Costco and Pokémon Center have built-in support. Order emails from most other stores are read too, using on-device Apple Intelligence where your device supports it. OrderTrail is not affiliated with any of these retailers.

Is my email safe?

Yes. OrderTrail reads your mailbox read-only, directly from your device, and never sends your email to us. We don't run servers at all. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Does one subscription cover iPhone and Mac?

Yes. OrderTrail Pro works on every iPhone and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account, and with Family Sharing your family can use it too.

How do I cancel or restore my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. To cancel, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or the App Store app on your Mac, and choose OrderTrail. If you reinstall the app or get a new device, tap Restore Purchases in OrderTrail's Settings.

Why aren't alerts arriving on my iPhone?

Make sure notifications are allowed for OrderTrail in iPhone Settings, and that "Scan for new emails in the background" is on in the app's Settings. iOS decides exactly when background scans run, usually a few times an hour while you use your phone. Opening the app always scans right away.
